The Nursery

by Pearl Lee

In this mural, there are thirty-seven types of flowers and six types of mushrooms. They’re all real types of flora, and you can learn about all of them. Pearl knows a surprising number of them- about 80%.

Her love of flowers started at 8 years old, when her mother bought her red geraniums from Costco. She faithfully watered them everyday and the grew and flourished. Then she left for summer camp and told her brother to take care of them. He forgot to. She’s been taking care of flowers since. Recently she’s been growing a couple of air plants in her dorm in Baker. Right now she has limited window space, but once she gets an apartment she plans to have all sorts of flowers.

Figuring out what flower to paint next

She was inspired by Rifle Paper Company, which makes papers printed with all sorts of quirky floral prints. Her favorite moment painting was when a friend stopped by and was excited she included his favorite type of mushroom.
